I also have the issue as described by the OP, although I never get a "lamp failure" warning. Also have the "short to ground" or something like that error when checking error codes with VAG. Took it to the dealer. It seems that there is a SB out on this now. It described the error exactly as we are experiencing it. The electric control unit needs to be replaced. Currently waiting for this control unit to arrive from Germany.

Interesting and another nail in the coffin of the dealer where I recently took my Q7 for service.

I, too, reported the "short to ground" error code in the VAG and told the SA that I had heard there's a SB about the problem. When I picked the car up, he told me that there was no SB; and to not worry about the error code, since it was intermittent.

Sadly, that dealer is very close; but I will not put up with that kind of no-service again. For those who would like to know, it's Gwinnett Audi which is part of the Rick Case Automotive Group. Caveat Emptor!

I'm not too surprised, Dutch. I bought my previous car (02 Mitsubishi Diamante) from them and went there a couple of times for service. I was not impressed; their rates were rather high, and they didn't do an especially good job. Also, when I was looking into the A3 TDI back in October 09, the first place I stopped was Gwinnett Audi. They acted like they couldn't be bothered to sell something as plebian as an A3. Nalley in Roswell & Jim Ellis in Chamblee were much more interested.

Might I recommend Jim Ellis for service? I've had both my 5K and 15K services there (the latter last week), and have been very happy with them. They seem to be very efficient -- my 15K service took just over an hour. For both services, they insisted on giving me a loaner; a newish A4 Quattro. First time I got a loaner nicer than the car I took in.

My exact same issue as OP stated was resolved by dealer. There was a service bulletin for it, wasn't one when I first brought it to dealer attention. They changed a control module. It's been a few months since and I don't have paperwork in front of me. So no details. Sorry.

Just got my Q back from service, and they fixed the issue I discussed in post 10 above. Apparently after they installed the new LED relay, the vehicle active headlight module defaulted to Europe, and the module looked for European lights every time I turned the vehicle on, found US lights, and got confused. They simply reset module to US, all fixed.

If you park an EU Audi with the indicator/blinker active, that side becomes a low energy parking light once the key is pulled.
I wonder if they mixed up some of the programming when they went LED.
