Q7 TDI and Hybrid, Q5 delayed until model year 2010
ugh.
considering withdraing my deposit at dealer for Q5. By then, the new BMW and Benz offerings including diesels will already be on the market. Also Saab may have something intersting as well by then.
Never Follow.

No mention of delay on Q7 TDI
and the Q5 hasnt been launched so it is all guesswork and proposals as yet.
I remember waiting 7 months for my Q7 at launch. Audi kept saying it would be longer and my dealer kept saying "they like cars to arrive ahead of schedule so you get a feel good factor" In the end it was early by two weeks and I was away on hols...stupid game.
The type approval however for the 3.0 TDI does seem to be very involved for the US admin. What exactly do they think Audi is trying to "smuggle" into the States. Surely if the EU has already approved it, then its good enough for U guys! How complicated can approving the bluetec part be? It is just an additive in the exhaust, surely you test it and say yes or no!
24hrs, 1 week, 30days how long can it take?
I have been to the States and seen some of those Whites, Peterbilts, Macks, whatever rev up and pump a lifetimes worth of pollution into the air in one twin stack belch.
Is there more to it?
All reports seem very vague and unspecific, like there is a compulsory stumbling block in place.
For my part I just want to see how the AW users react to the 3.0 TDI in any car. I think you will be pleasantly surprised...if you ever ever get the darn things!

Re: No mention of delay on Q7 TDI
The AdBlue portion (additive in the exhuast) is a tricky subject--- the current EPA guidelines says the emissions controls systems requires no maintenance for 100,000 miles. Current AdBlue (urea injection) do require periodic maintenance (around 10,000 miles or so). Obviously, this does not comply with EPA guidelines. However, exhaust treatments (various converters) that do make up a portion of BlueTec is EPA certified-- found in the E320 Bluetec and supposedly the upcoming Jetta TDI

Blame Honda!
Seems Honda's new diesel engine, that's coming to the US in 2009, doesn't need to have anything added to it to meet the new pollution regulations.
EPA's logic is - If Honda can do this, why not the rest? Plus, Americans are lazy and won't add the additive when they're supposed to. Why can't we just pee in the tank?
Yes, the whole truck, construction and farm equipment thing is confusing. Clouds of polluntants come from these vehicles. Why arn't these things as regulated as cars? Like I have to ask? Power and money says they shouldn't be.

Could it have anything to do with the strong influence of Porsche on the Board? Given the Q7 performance with the diesel, sales of the Cayanne could be in trouble. Surely they would not delay the Q7 diesel to help the Cayanne, would they? Wait, I seem to recall something about the new model of the Tourag being delayed because......
