Whining mechanical noise only ~35mph when cold
Our 2015 prestige has started making a whining noise that seems to be mechanical. It only happens in colder ambient conditions, say below 40F and getting worse as it gets colder. It started last winter, but I never got the car in to be looked at before temps increased, and it's back now. Generally only happens at speeds around 30-40mph, accelerating, decelerating, and constant speed. It immediately gets louder transitioning from cruising to accelerating, and the pitch of the tone increases with speed. Seems unrelated to engine RPM, but possibly related to driveshaft/diff/wheel speed. Sounds like it's coming from somewhere aft of the drivers seat.
I suppose it could be tire noise, but why only when cold, and why an immediate change when the load on the driveline changes? 1 original tire, 3 are 5k miles newer, having been replaced for cupping early on. 22k total miles now.
Thoughts?

I figured I'd bring this lonely abandoned post back from the dead for an update. I was in for a regular service visit, and despite temperatures being fairly warm, the dealership was able to identify the source of my noise. They identified noise coming from the propshaft, and there's even a service bulletin: TSB 2028902/4 (though I couldn't find a copy of the complete text online). So I now have a new rear driveshaft, and the car is much quieter.
