I believe in the US dealers use Castrol Edge Full synthetic 5W-30LL, where "LL" per my recollections stands for Audi/VW spec compliance.
As for the engine wear prevention and making your car's engine work more efficiently one might try using Liqui Moly Cera Tec:

I tried Cera Tec on my previous two vehicles, but with no observable differences before/after. But I do not keep vehicles past 70K miles, thus they were comparably new. One of my friends who travels a lot due to his business requirements used this additive on his two years old Acura with 215K miles on it with significant improvements reported after 60-70 miles of driving after oil change. According to his report, a slightly better MPG and very noticeable improvement in engine smoothness/ lower noise was the result of his experiment.

This is the bible when it comes to approved oils. https://www.audiusa.com/content/dam/...-1.22.2018.pdf
Any approved oil will show VW 50x on the label.

I have never, ever heard of any correlation between engine temperature and oil usage. Also, small point but the Q7 is supercharged, not turbocharged.

Audi has a particular reputation for consuming the Holy Black, but John Cadogan is essentially right in his explanation, which may partly explain the - relatively - good gas mileage enjoyed by such a heavy beast....

My Q5 3.2 and Q7 3.0T both use about a quart between 10k changes. Has never gotten worse. May want to check your drain plug. The Audi OEM's are junk and leak all the time. Both of my cars have better ones installed.

Sorry to bring back an old post, what ended up being the culprit for your issue?

Actually there is a correlation. I started to tow a boat this year, I've paid attention that the oil temperature is about 20% higher then I pull a boat. So this year I had to add a quarter of oil for the first time ever.
