I can't vouch for iVolume, but it's supposed to improve over Sound Check. If you get info in itunes on a handful of songs, you'll notice the volume levels are all over the map, more than 10db differences between different songs is not uncommon. This is what Sound Check & iVolume is supposed to fix

In my experience, anything playing audio on the phone will stream to the MMI over lightening. I frequently stream podcasts to the MMI from the Overcast app using the lightning connection. But then you have that pesky input level issue which with bluetooth you can adjust but can't with lightning.

I just searched for iVolume in the app store and couldn't find it. Do you know if it changed names or something? It's not a jailbreak-required app is it?

iVolume is not an iOS app but rather and OSX & Windows app

Ahhh, that makes sense. It's $30 and there's some bad reviews. And it won't help when playing sources such as iHeartRadio or Overcast. So I guess I'll pass. But thanks for the tip.
