Default 2017 Q7 step bar/running boards

Anyone install step bar or running board on your 2017/2018 Q7 beside OEM? I have 3yr old and 5yr old having hard time to get in and out. OEM cost $1600 for a pair, I am looking for alternate solution before OEM.

I still don't get why if you get the towing package, you can't have running boards. Was told they use the same mounts, but how can that be. There is a tire and suspension system separating those areas.

I would tie knotted ropes to the Jesus handles that are above the doors.

So, this has been discussed for a while. It has to do with combination of running boards, 4 wheel steering and a hitch. You can have 2 out of 3. Pick a combination that works for you. No reason given, BTW.

I didn't get 4 wheel steering (adaptive chassis). Even if I go on Audi's site and build one. I can't pick running boards and towing.

Even repeated it building a base premium where adaptive chassis isn't available.

You can configure both on the German Audi site, so I think you can install both. Maybe install running boards after delivery.

You can see this thread: https://www.audiworld.com/forums/q7-...d-ons-2922875/

From my own research I'm told you can't do running boards and towing because of gross vehicle weight.

Installing them is very labor intensive as well. (so I'm told).

I feel the same way after having the car for several months, I'd rather have them than not, but at this point I'm not sure they're even worth $1k to me.

I'm glad nobody in my family is complaining about needing running boards. The last vehicle they did, my 4Runner, I said I'd trade it in before installing running boards. Guess what? I did. I HATE running boards. On a Q7, the running boards would look like they are almost touching the ground as the new style look a lot more "mini-van" like with optional rear doors.
