My salesman could not do it. He was saying to do it directly under the hitch, and he was kicking fast several times.

I can sometimes do it, but now I see I was kicking 2-3 times in a row when I need to just wait.

Works every time for me too. If you follow the correct procedure you shouldn’t have any issues.

If you are and it still doesn’t work, I would take it back to the dealer as you probably have fault.

I agree. It works exactly as described in the manual. Never had any issues, works every single time. I suspect pilot errors reported here are predominated by a lack of patience; the build-in delay from kick to the gate pops open is there for good reasons so main advise for those that can't get it to work consistently is trying to be (a bit more) patient after kicking.

A moderate horizontal kick/swing underneath either side of the valence works every time. The key is to wait 3-5 seconds for the hatch to open before kicking again. The system will read it as a false opening if multiple kicks are made within the short period.

I enjoy the alternative views from each side. And I agree, it isn't flawless, as is no technology. Technology is constantly improving which is part of what makes it so cool.

This video (at the 1:00 mark) demonstrates the ability to swing the foot left and right to open the rear hatch. Regardless of direction, ensure to wait for the system to process the command.

The owner's manual shows the kick going straight in.

And I just tried it like this video, and couldn't get it to work.

You have a tow package, need to go off center, right or left of the hitch.

Is it the rear-ultrasonic sensors that make it work? Or is there some other sensor inside the bumper?
