It depends on how you define "underpowered" and how you generally drive and what you want out of the car... If you're generally not heavy footed, the 2L Turbo is actually a great engine. For a car the size of the Q7, don't expect it to be great in terms of performance, but you would be surprised at how well it does when you make it do work. Acceleration is 7 seconds 0-60mph and torque kicks in well at low RPMs. I think it's not a bad option. There's a reason Audi makes them available. If you expect to have it loaded up quite often or are in a hilly / mountain area, then this may not be a great option. Performance with the 2L Turbo engine on this car is better than a CX7 for example with their 2.5L Turbo.
I like more performance out of my cars and am heavy footed, so I would not purchase this option, however, I know many people for who this engine option would work very well...

Q7 is a family car and people are buying it because of the size of the vehicle and how many people it can haul. It will be loaded most of the time. This is why most of the time it is underpowered with the 2.0 engine. The 2.0 makes more sense on the smaller Q5 or a sedan.

I drove that engine a few months ago. It’s actually very peppy. You’re on an enthusiast website so everyone here is gonna tell you that the 2.0 is ****e and you need the 3.0.
(Admit it fellas. You know I’m right. Haha)
like the above said, if you’re looking for a whiplash, back of the seat experience, you might be disappointed. If you plan on pulling some weight, you’ll be better off with the 3.0. But if you are looking for a beautiful ride and an engine that is still damn exciting to drive, the 2.0 is a great engine and fun AF.
I would have totally bought a 2.0 if I didn’t find a 2020 with 1000 miles on it with and a 3.0.

Can’t go wrong either way.However....
If your on a budget, 2.0L is decent(lighter, fuel saver-ish depending on how heavy your foot will be) which will save you some money on maintenance best tune it to have more passing power. If you can spend a bit more,3.0L all the way.Your maintenance cost will be more due to the supercharger but it ain’t a slouch when hauling and/or passing other vehicles, don’t need to floor the accelerator go quick without engine screaming like the litre - plus oil changes, spark plugs are easier to change because less parts to remove. No need to have it tuned unless you are going to take it to the track or wan’t the feeling of driving a jacked up S4 :P
