Default What do you pay for an oil change?

Just came back from the dealer where I paid $260 for an oil change. I know this is on the pricier side but the loaner, free espressos and keeping the oil change during the warranty period gives me some peace of mind makes it worthwhile 😂

what do you pay for an oil change, and where do you go for it?

ouch- 260? What year is your q7?

I change my own oil with an oil extractor since audi made it much easier with the oil filter on top.

Drive around for a few minutes so the oil is running and extractor all the oil.
I get to change my oil more often since it take around 20 minutes.

This right here. $70 for the extractor, about 80 for oil, $25 ish for the filter is a small price to pay to not have to worry about someone stripping the oil pan plug.

About $40 at the local fast lube for the 2017 Q7/V6 draining from the pan. Provide them VW 505 oil, filter and drain plug + washer.

This is not going to work for the 2023 SQ7/V8 though; will need to go to the dealer as the filter is inaccessible without disconnecting/taking out a lot of stuff at the top. $260 would not be a complete ripoff for this, as the VW 511 oil itself would be around $100 (about 3X of the VW 505 oil), and the filter removal involves some labor.

For my ‘17 Q7 3.0, about $19. Yes — $19. That’s the cost to ship the used oil & filter back to FCP Euro after I buy LiquiMoly oil and a new filter from them. Once they receive my used oil and filter back, they credit me back for my original purchase price of these items. That’s their lifetime replacement policy.

I use extractor to suck oil out from top of engine (same as the dealers do for these engines). Replace filter. No new drain plug because don’t need to get under the car to remove the old drain plug nor any of the PITA covers under the car.

EzPz and makes it cheap to do 5K mile oil change intervals.

I just paid $25 each for two 5 quart Castrol euro 5w30 at Walmart. I usually get the filter through rock auto or Amazon, Sometimes FCP since I live about 10 minutes away from them, usually Mann or Hengst. It’s never more than $15. I also use the vacuum pump to extract the oil. So total is usually around $63-70 depending on the oil cost. I pour the spent oil into a collector that holds over 10 quarts and bring it to my local transfer station which is again about 10 minutes away.
I’m seriously considering the lifetime warranty deal through FCP next time.

Wow, these responses are making me jealous. I forgot to mention I have a 2019 Prestige.

I order the "kit" from ECSTuning. $89.89 kit from ECSTuning

Use an extractor in the garage at home. Takes ~20-30min depending on how many beers I drink.

19$ - this is how much shipping cost back to FCPEuro for a full refund.

Buy the oil and filter separately from them instead of the kit. You don’t need the drain plug or washer or (hopefully) the sticker. That saves 7.75. Plus, they run sales on the oil.
Currently, the oil and filter for that kit costs 77.11 if purchased separately instead of the 89 for the kit.
