Finally had my winter setup installed last week. This forum was extremely helpful during the research process, many many thanks to LarryV, CadX6, and everyone else I missed. The install got delayed a week due to the lugs sent being the wrong size (a couple mm too long for the rear wheels). But Skyler at Achtuning was very good and prompt about correcting the mistake.
The wheels I got were 20" Hartmann Replicas of the 21" OEMs (but gunmental in color), and they look sweet. Bought them online on Achtuning.com
Tires are 265/50/20 Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 SUV, bought on TiresbyWeb.com
Ride quality is barely any different, and winter performance while not tested yet, I'm sure will be fine. I put Hakka R2s on my Outback last year, and I'm very pleased with the performance.
The pictures were a rush job and don't do justice to how nice the Q really looks.

The originals, which is not optimal, but the solution for this winter. I wanted to get a set of 20" OEMs, but eventually gave up. Now, after having tried the 21" in snow, I might prefer to have an extra set of 21" rims with winters permanently mounted.

I have 21" winter tires. Got a chance to try them on a mix of "10 of fresh snow and hard packed on unpaved forrest roads i VT yesterday. The car handles amazingly well. Super grip, giving throttle coming out of a corner and it just sticks. I'm not sure how much of that is due to the adaptive chassis/four wheel steering, my '12 Q7 would definitely throw out its rear and sail around to a much greater extent before it would get itself back on track.

Maybe. Depends on the offset. Everything else (bolt pattern, bore) is identical but offset of the Q7 needs to be in the +28 to +35 range. I think most Q5 wheels are in the +40 range. Best to test fit the wheels.

They're +39. I don't think the 255/55R19 on an 8" wheel is close enough for diameter either. I'm going to try selling them and finding a set that's 8.5 or 9". Thanks for the reply though.
