Default Yikes, someone is in for a surprise. Hope that it isn't someone here.

I was watching this auction for a week. It is an interesting engine, a WH code 100PS 1.9L carburated aluminum engine used in taxis in the early '80s. It has a 79.5mm bore and 77.4mm stroke. The guy bought it for 179 Euro (checked his feedback and the seller confirmed to me that it is the same block) and now sold it as a Sport q block. I was going to grab it if it went for less than 200 Euro, but the price went crazy. While I think that it could be modified to work as a turbo block (machine turbo oil return, machine mount for speed and reference sensors, etc.), it probably isn't a good starting point for a high performance engine.

I hope the buyer knows what he is getting...<ul><li><a href="http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&amp;item=7967462915&amp;ssP ageName=ADME:B:WNE:1">Aluminum I5 block sold on ebay.</a></li></ul>

Its insane without seeing the deck or knowing actual leakdown numbers. If someone wants absolute performance it COULD be a good purchase, but two crappy pictures is not enough for something that could have alot of issue. The bore and stroke is all wrong for the proper race blocks. Smaller bore and longer stroke. No pictures of the sleeves (if there are any)

It could be good, who knows.

Default Bore is not an issue with sleeved blick and stroke is a crank issue...

i would have bought it for that price... nice piece of kit for a rare car like Ur-q...

Default Yes, about all you would use is the block itself.

I checked ETKA, and the WH uses unique pistons. I think that they must be about 10mm taller than a "normal" Audi piston to get the 10:1 compression ratio that it has, just like some old VW diesels. The good thing is that this makes the deck height correct to use with an 86.4mm crank with standard rods and 20V pistons.

Yes, this probably was a good buy for the right person, but I didn't want to take a $2k (after its shipped) chance on a totally unknown quantity. That would be an expensive end table.

Time to start searching for WH engines...
