The extended warranty quandary for my boys/girls to help solve. deposit your 2 cents <here>
I bought my 01 A4 with 53K miles just last month and included a 5 yr 100K warranty. According to the warranty company (1 month later) they can't extend any coverage, because the car has to be 2002 or newer. I could buy a warranty that covers me for the next 3 years or 40K for $600 more ($3,100). What do you all think? Am I walking the line here? I admire Trevor for giving me such an honest answer and I'd like to head what everyone else thinks. Do you guys think my car will exceed 3K in repairs over the next 5-6 years if I go light on the mods? It seems like owning an Audi w/o a warranty is equivalent to getting some "strange", without the protection

If I was to do any mods, I'd forget the warranty. >>>
With mods, they'll try to find any reason they can to void the warranty anyway. Some times they're wrong and you can get them to cover, but the battle is a major PITA.

I have C.A.R.S warranty - they have covered EVERYTHING without any issues. Wheel bearings, sunroof
switch, rocking seat, tie rods, control arms, main seal leak, buzzing climate control...and a few others. I recommend them. I have had about $7000 in work done through them, and they have never denied a claim (yet)

I was in your boat 6 months ago...
I opted to skip the warranty since i was/am planning on turning this thing into a beast which would require me to upgrade many of the parts that would be covered under warranty. But if you are planning on keeping your car relatively stock, then a warranty isn't that bad of an idea...if you can find one that actually covers stuff (Like S4merlyKnow recommended) instead of just denying claim after claim.
I'd say it depends on what you want to do with the car...no sense replacing an oem clutch with another oem clutch if you are running 400ftlbs

here is an idea.
take that 3100 you would have spend on the warranty and put it some place that will earn you a little interest.
pay for repairs out of that fund. odds are pretty good that when you get done with the next 3 years you will still have $ left in that account.
also don't forget that most aftermarket warranties will charge a deductable on work done, and will have a good long list of exclusions. you'll end up doing way more than 3100 in work before the warranty pays out 3100.

My sentments exactly... and T-belts aren't covered
T-belts are considered a maintenence item. and you will be due in 10k or so miles. I about broke even on the one I had for the 98 A4 2.8q and it was a pain in the... coordinating between service shops and warrenty co. Almost always a battle.
