fuel guage / range weirdness

fuel guage / range weirdness
left the car a few days ago reading "range 15" (slow urban traffic - probably 10mpg recent average) and the needle was in among the red bubbles - above "E". Parked flat. Came back today and after ignition, the fuel needle was on or (if anything) below the "E" line, and range sat at "0 miles" .. and stayed there, until i went to add 5 gallons, whereupon needle went to 1/4 mark and range read "50 miles".

Where you parked for a few of days -- was it hot?
It's hard to imagine that an entire gallon would evaporate from a fuel tank in "a few days" unless it was really hot.
How hot was it? How many days?
And...thanks for letting us know, so we can hopefully avoid the issue by parking with more fuel left!

was fairly hot but inside
yeah a few days and daytime temps near 90 but inside.
Anyway, i would expect the tank not to allow evaporation to that extent! otherwise you'd park in a long term carpark for a month and go from full to empty! personally i think it is some computer issue.
