Default Purchasing a used 2014 Audi RS7

Hey there,

I am very seriously considering purchasing a used 2014 Audi RS7, the prices I've been seeing for this car are frankly fantastic for the beast you are getting. But here is the question, how boned am I going to get on maintenance, service etc. I understand these costs will be higher, but can anyone give me insight on what specifically we are talking?

Brake rotors are ~$500 a piece and don't seem to last a terribly long while. The air shocks are around $1000/ea. I believe that the bushings on certain suspension components can't be replaced by themselves and you must replace the entire component. These are all, of course, not items that WILL need fixing but are probably the most likely. Also if the PCV valve fails, which seems to be extremely common on this powertrain, will cost about $1500 to have a shop replace. Tires are $300-$400/ea. If power steering/oil/water pumps go out they require an engine out service(someone correct me if I'm wrong), so that's around ~$4500.

With that said, absolutely everything minus an engine out can be done in your garage on jack stands with common autoparts store tools. The scariest thing IMO is the brake rotors/pads, where most of the cost is the part.

Full brake replacement is $4800. I know this because Audi just changed out my brakes (rotors and pads) because they were squeaking and the bill was that much. It was covered under warranty for me. 2017 RS7 with 12,000 miles.

These are all just parts prices by the way...no labor. My local Audi dealer charges $155/hr in labor.

Default RS7 Repairs

Brakes are quite expensive. If you buy the car I would suggest purchasing Audi Care and the Wheels and Tire package.

This will cover your scheduled maintenance and cost for any flats or rim damage.

This isn't really an 'RS' thing though.. pretty much any high-powered AWD car has this issue. I've had this problem (to scale LOL) with VW R32, Taurus SHO, and WRX STi costing $2500-3000+ too. Even with 300-400hp, those cars chew through brakes in about 20k miles or less too. Factory OEM rotors and pads are a ripoff no matter what brand you drive, and aftermarket parts will be better performance; at the first interval with every car I've switched to EBC track-day pads from whatever the OEM product is, and there are always better rotor choices too. If they meet OEM spec the dealer should always be willing to install them too; if your dealer refuses.. you need a new dealer. Do you recall how much of that $4800 was labour vs parts?

Brakes are not covered by Audi Care as they are a "wear item".
