Default Is 3k off MSRP on an '07 reasonable?

Hi all,

Do you guys think this discount is reasonable or should there be a larger one for an '07 at this point? The car stickers for 73.5k by the way.

I'm in the North East, and believe it or not, this is the only dealer that I've spoken to (have contacted about 5-6) that was willing to move somewhat significantly off the sticker price; the others seem content in trying to sell their leftover '07s at close to sticker.

This particular dealer claims that invoice on this car is $73.5k - 4.5k = 69k. Edmunds.com says it's just a hair over 68k.

By the way, I still can't believe that some people were stating in the "RS4 pulled over by a cop just to check out the car" thread that one can afford (comfortably, I'm assuming) this car with a 115k/yr salary and mortgage on a $500k house .

Default RS4 with 115k/yr and 500k house? Feels incorrect.

It would depend on how much the mortgage loan is worth and what is the monthly payment on the car, but I think ends won't meet "comfortably."

And that's without having kids.

I think we're probably missing some vital information here, like dual income.

Yeh, that's why I was surprised some people were stating that cops who make $115k and have a $500k house can actually afford this car.

The rule of thumb seems to be that your monthly car payment should be no more than 20% of your net monthly income. This of course doesn't take into account other expenses, but is just an estimate.

I'd be really curious to hear people's opinion on the RS4 price that I mentioned. Does anyone know the "true" invoice on this car? Can Edmunds.com be trusted?

Default Edmunds is correct.

Their numbers are the same as Audi's official pricing guide. True invoice is $67,746. That includes the premium package, gas guzzler tax, and destination fee. Dealer markup on this car is significant.

3K below sticker is pretty much meeting you half way. Did they actually make you that offer, or is that just what you're thinking you can get one for? You're getting a good deal if you can get one at that price. My local dealer has a used RS4 every time I stop by. The most recent one has 1500 miles on it and they're asking $70,500. They were not willing to budge very much when I inquired about a new one. They offered me a token $500 discount because I'm a returning customer. I wasn't impressed. They came back with 1K below list and said that was the best they could do.

Yes, this is an actual offer. $3k off on an '08 would be stellar, but this is an '07 which makes me think that a dealership should be willing to sell them for just a bit over invoice at this point in the year. My gut is telling me that $68.2k - 68.5k would be a fair deal right now, but perhaps I'm the crazy one.

Sounds like an aggressive discount to me, but if you can afford to be patient, negotiate near the end of the month when they're trying to make budget.
