Default B6 S4 Avant to RS4 upgrade

Hey all,

New here, I am an infrequent poster on the B6 S4 board....

Strongly considering upgrading my S4 Avant with 68K on it (now worth about the price of a grande latte) to an RS4 with 7-20k miles. There are currently >20 for sale bet 45-50k within 75mi of my location (suburban NYC).
My S4 has been relatively bulletproof but I have fallen out of love and it is time for a new hammer. There seem to be two issues (and only two) that get any airtime on various RS4 forums:
1. DRC failures which are either common or rare depending who you ask, and which the dealers are either cool about or *********** depending who you ask.
2. Carbon build-up from the FSI--seems more rare

Is this DRC issue a deal breaker, how cool has A0A been about it......O/W you guys seem to love these cars, as does everyone in the press.

Any comments greatly appreciated, Thank you...
If you are selling in my area lemme know...

As far as the DRC issue and living in Queens, my local dealer (Biener) had no problem fixing my DRC issue and were actually pretty quick with the fix. Haven't had any issue with the carbon build-up though...knock on wood. But I do recommend you pick one up, especially with the price that they have dropped down to. I bought mine in late October for 51k w/ 18k miles.

Default I made that exact move 2 yrs ago - do it & you will like it

My S4 Avant was a great car - I added Miltek exhaust, chip, Strat short shifter & intake, 19" RS4 DTM whls, etc. and thought it was just about perfect UNTIL I drove an RS4.

I've had mine for 2 yrs now, and while I don't have a lot of miles on it (~9,000), it has been absolutely trouble free. No signs of the well discussed DRC issues, and if it has carbon buildup, I sure as hell can't tell. Once you go to WOT and redline in 2nd & 3rd gear a couple of times, you will quickly forget about your S4. I plan to keep mine for a long time.

Good luck with your search. Those of us who bought a couple of years ago before everything went to hell in a hand basket are envious of the prices at which it seems you can now pick up this great car.

And while I miss the Avant dearly, I certainly wouldn't give up the RS4 to get it.

Since you are looking at a used RS4, you should go drive it once, that will answer your questions in a hurry.

Default I went from a b6 sedan to the rs4 about a year ago.

The rs4 is head over heals better. I had no issue with the drc, but switched to the stasis sl kit. If you test drive it you will be sold.

Default He's right...the test drive makes you want to buy buy buy...

Im currently on the prowl for a used RS4 as well. At first I was a little lax about it but finally got to test drive one and WOW was I impressed. Of course now I just am chompin at the bit to find the right one.

It'll be quite the upgrade from my Volvo S60r
