Default This damn car is freekin' amazing in the snow

Lots and lots of snow in Michigan lately and I gotta say - my 330xi was good but just didn't have the pony-power this baby has. What a stinkin' blast it is! The RS4 with 18" 225 Dunlop M3's is the best vehicle in the snow I've owned - better than the aformentioned BMW 330xi with Michelin Pilot Alpine PA2's, better than a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland (260HP) with Dunlop Wintersports, better than my wife's 2004 AWD Cadillac SRX (320HP) with Perelli Scorpions, better than my really old 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited (225HP) with Blizzaks, and obviously better than several other 2-wheel front and rear-wheel drive vehicles with Blizzaks. I'm not talking about drive-across-the-median snow, but slippery roads and parking lots with up to 6" (or so) of snow and slush and/or ice.

The electronics of the Audi makes these other car's electronics seem like toys. What a fantastic car. No, the PERFECT car for all-seasons. What a dumbass for not knowing about Audi until now...

I have the same tires. I live in the Seattle area and Actuning recommended the Dunlop M3s which I ended up buying from them because of all the rain we get (they're great in the rain!) and for the occassional trip to the pass for skiiing. We also got a good dump of snow this year and the tires with the Quattro make for a great package. I was passing FWD cars and SUVs that were litterally sliding backwards down the hills spinning their wheels and my car wasn't even breakin' a sweat.

Default I've got the 3Ds, just what i need...but nothing compared to WS50

This car is good with the Dunlop 3Ds...I'm up in Woodstock, VT with about 18" and counting. The car can not hold a stick compared to my 05.5 S4 last year with the Blizzak WS-50s. Night and day, not even comparable in the snow..Those were amazing studless tires. Yes, a completely different tire. I agree on the AWD Audi system...it rocks..
If I were living in CO or BC, I would have to go with the WS 50 for winter...however, the 3Ds are good, and a much better overall tire. Like I said i live about 50 yards from the ocean in CT, and looks like we got no snow once again. Other than a few trips to VT and ME, I could get away with all seasons..However for those trips up here in this weather, glad I got the Dunlops.........

2nd. Unrivaled in snow, but handle like a 1972 Buick and Q-rated (100mph)

Default The 50's are not really designed for S4's/RS4's, IMO. The old LM-22's,

current LM-25's, and 3D's (what I have switched to) are an excellent compromise, and offer decent feel and handling with more than decent snow (and ICE!!) performance.

I left for work yesterday with 12" of new snow in my lot...B6S4 and 3D's had no problem.

Good for me to hear of RS4 snow performance, since I plan on ordering to coincide with the end of Central New York winter.

stay safe

Default I agree fully....The 3Ds are perfect for me and.........

Handle very well in the Dry. The WS 50s were VERY wabbly, on turns, and made me nervous at speeds of 100. never dared to go higher....however at the time I was travelling up to VT often, and it was on the S4, and I had no SUV or truck...They were fantastic in some very bad storms I hit. THe 3Ds are great, a perfect fit of very good winter tires and handling on the dry...I just notice a difference up here with all the snow. Total accumulation was 31 inches here 2 miles north of downtown woodstock. My family is on a 1500 acre farm up here..lots of room to play and try out the 3Ds on miles of private roads...and best of all, a private pond....
