Default There was some talk on the B5 S4 forum about a carbon fiber insert...

I'm sure the same could be done for an RS4. I think it was Wicked Motorsports that had the idea. You should contact them.

Default The CF hood might be better for balance, and way cheaper. You would be breaking...

new ground with that mod. Maybe some of the motorsport guys have done something like it after a roll cage, but I would be worried about rigidity of a one off sunroof removal.

Default Do you think the sunroof is weaker??

Turns out the support around it makes it stronger than not having one.

Default You should (honestly) go ask some M3 owners who did that as it is more common with those <m>

The E46 M3 CSL had a CF roof but was not sold here.

So... there are both OEM and aftermarket roofs that people have installed. The labor should be roughly equivalent to the swap on an RS4.

In case it matters, the M3's crash protection is entirely unaffected by the change to CF as the roof skin (again in the BMW application) is non-structural.

While we're on the subject: does anyone have a weight comparison of the sunroof vs. sunroof delete?

It's around 35lbs for B5 chassis. The mechanism and glass is 32lbs (removed mine and weighed it)

Default Yep..only in the U.S. are they rare. I've always ordered mine w/o sunroof.

Glad the Cayman doesn't even have the option
