I was in second gear almost at redline and went to shift and the car wouldnt go into any gears.

I was in second gear almost at redline and went to shift and the car wouldnt go into any gears.
I had esp off and the car would not go into any gears with the esp totally off (5 second hold). Then i engaged esp again and the car went right into gear. Anyone know what happened??? The car is fine now i drove it for another hour after that and the car is totally fine in every gear.
