Default And this is speaking from constant full load dyno testing...

which is not represenative to street driving.

If an engine is giving me 0.02% lube oil consumption at full load on the dyno, the consumption at part load on the street will be even less.

Default Chris, any thoughts about why we're seeing such high fuel dilution in this engine?

Thus far, in three successive oil analysis across 8000 miles, I've seen the flash point at 315, 320 and 310, with baselines of 400+ for the oil. This has not changed with wear-in.

In the oil analysis across time, the numbers for Aluminium, Chromium, and Molybdenum have all decreased, indicating wear-in of the rings and cylinders, but fuel dilution has not abated. At the same time, I am seeing around .25L of oil consumption per 3000 miles.

Would you care to venture a guess about this particular direct injection engine?

Default Re: Still in the process of understanding the engine

The motul comes in at a 30W new? Even though rated a 40W? That would cause me major concern, as it would tell me that their process and/or bottling of the product is off.

Are you considering the direct injection in the fuel dilution scenarios?

Default Is it really that expensive?

My dealer said that it is 7 bucks a quart and that it is the same oil that goes in the S4. Is he correct?

Default Yeh, same oil...per Audi approved oil list(s)...

ful synthetic, 5w40, 5w30, 0w40 are the approved weights. It's up to you which brand you choose to use(among the dozens on the list). Kinda silly isn't it?

Interesting they use the word "belief" - implies no objective data to prove their assumptions ...
