Default Motortrend 08' M3 vs. RS4 Article

Why is motortrend always pick BMW as the winner, and also can't seem to get their facts straight?

They cite the piston speed of the M3 as being so high, but they neglect to mention that the RS4 25.9 meters per second =76 feet per second is faster than the M3...see below

> It's the highest-revving motor here and sounds it. At full chat, a glorious 8400 rpm, those beautifully crafted pistons are traveling at some 69 feet per second, not so much slower than a BMW F1 engine (about 80 feet a second). The higher the revs, the more the engine plays, the more spirited it becomes, the more responsive, too. Push past 8000, and beyond the redline on the tach, and you're entering a special zone, an almost auto-erogenous zone, when the engine note turns from howl into full bloody anger, when the engine still pulls after you expect the staccato tat-a-tat-tat o

Automobile Mag, IMO, is the only one that can hold a candle to the int'l publications.

Default On a technical side, write them a letter and see if they print the correction

be interesting to see if BMW paycheck allows them to or not.

Default Look....the M3 is an awesome vehicle......

Nobody in their right mind can dispute this. It is also a superior race tool on a dry racetrack with a professional driver. But....on the street, and in a wide variety or road and weather conditions, and in the hands of 99% of the people who will buy the car, the RS4's performance is far more accessible and with a much higher degree of safety and security when driven hard than the M3. To say either car is "better" than the other on an overall basis is ridiculous. They are equal vehicles, each with it's strengths under differing cirumstances.

Default The RS4 was an instant classic when introduced...

It is the current yardstick by which all other sport sedans are measured right now.
Sure the M3 is better on the track, but most of us use our cars for work/sports/travel/shopping/going to home depot 99.5% of the time.
Besides, who wants to be a ****** in an M3
