New Clutch Pricing?
I'm due for a new clutch. I think I did pretty well getting to 41000 miles. My dealer estimated parts and labor at around $2000. My dealer's been good with all my service and repair, but is this reasonable?
Also wondering how much mileage others have gotten and any suggestions for aftermarket clutches?

Re: Too soon I think
I had to take my car in because I heard my throw out bearing squeaking when I pressed the clutch in. They had to drop the entire front diff and tranny to to replace it. I have four hard track days and 30k miles on the car.
They called me in to take a look at the clutch since they had everything apart. The clutch had some wear but had plenty of material left. The flywheel had some hot spots but looked fine as well. I have seen a lot of abused clutches and flywheels before and mine looked like it had at least another 50 - 75k left on it.
I replaced the clutch with a new stock unit just because it had 30k on it and they had the old clutch out anyway. It only cost me the price of the new clutch at $650 to have this done. Now I should be good for another 100k miles.
Why do you need a new clutch? Is it chattering or slipping?

my M3 was replaced at 115k miles, only becuase i found a used one with <3k miles for $100 shipped...
when I mic'ed the old one it still was only 50% worn!

Wait till it's broke or slipping. No reason to replace it sooner.
Mine on the S4 went out at 70K. The lining just came off for some reason. And before someone says it's my driving, I went to 165K on my A4 with the original clutch.

Re: Drive a stick much :) ? 41k miles seems very low...
To be honest when I first picked up the car in 2006 I hadn;t driven a stick in over ten years and I had to relearn in Los Angeles traffic for several months (rode the clutch a lot and stalled a lot). I don't track. The clutch functions but it became vague and has a strange odor. The clutch hasn't slipped but requires deeeper engagement to start the car. I figured it's worn but I wan't sure it was gone. Dealer service thinks it's the clutch although they've never had an RS4 with so many miles.
I'm not stupid, I know regular A4 clutches go 100k easy, but I wasn't sure how long this relatively light feeling clutch would last. There was a video of a test driver burning out a clutch driving an RS4 aggressively in the desert.
