Default Re: Too soon I think

Slipping. Funny burnt smell too. Dealer (good one I think) thinks it is but they've not had another RS4 with over 40k so they may be overreacting but it sure seems like the clutch is worn.

Perhaps it's all the stop-n-go traffic in LA plus riding the clutch ? Even so, 41k seems very low.

Default Ouch

That looks like my A4 clutch looked like when a friend mis-shifted from 2nd into 1st instead of into 3rd during a track day.

Clutch linings don't just come off. It doesn't necessarily mean you're a bad driver... everyone makes mistakes.

Default Well...

I was just driving shifting from 2nd to 3rd and the pedal jammed to the floor. Not sure when the damage might have occurred. But it wasn't when it failed.

Default I got 66k out of my S4, and was starting the slip..

Did the old "put the car in 2nd, drive 20mph, step on the brakes and gas at the same time" trick, and it was definitely starting to slip. I could have gotten maybe 10k more out of it highway driving. but i traded it in.

I'm at 65k+ no issues with clutch have tracked and drive it aggressively all the time.

Default Try this LeeJR

You can check your clutch this way to see if it is bad. With the car running at idle, set the e-brake and press hard on the brake pedal. Put the car in gear and side-step the clutch. The car should die instantly. Your clutch is bad if the car sputters a few times like it is trying to continue to run before it dies.

Hope this helps!

Default Why not just drive it normally and put it in 3rd or higher at WOT and see if it slips?

Abusing the clutch to find out of the clutch is bad does not sound like a good idea.
