since when is "max 7000/min" a cutoff guideline?
So this morning I spot this ghetto ricer m3 (e36, one of the best cars ever made) and hes always around and I whoop on him in the evo cause its funny. This car is so ghetto but doesnt really have performance mods other than maybe a coffee can exhaust tip. Evo is in the shop so im in the RS4 and its been about 10 mins since ive been driving. We pull up to a light and he starts ghetto revving his engine so im like whatever. At this point the oil hasnt gotten above the 120ish degrees or whatever and I gun it. I know its bad and blah blah while the oil is cold but when I hit 7k the engine cuts out. What gives?!? I thought according to the manual it was supposed to be a recommendation not a hard cutoff. It even said something like over 7000 is possible for emergency situations or something.
Is the manual wrong?

how many miles do you have on your car? if under 1500mi
or however many miles are required for break-in then that's probably what's causing it. if it's over the break-in mileage then is it a function of oil temp?
curious as well

Wait a minute... finish the race story!
Was it 1st gear? The tach can't respond as fast as the engine can rev, so an indicated 7000 could actually be 8300. I always "short shift" first gear for that reason.

oh, didnt know that! Yeah needless to say he won just cause i was like WTF and didnt
try after that. I bet he went home and will now tell everyone how he beat an RS4 from the line. Hes always around my town by the ghetto ricing shops so next time I see him, ill know what to do. BTW, i was so far ahead in only 1st gear (at least 1.5 car lengths).
