Sport Exhaust Valve question
Okay....I know pressing the sport button sharpens the throttle response and changes the exhaust tone. My question is this:
Is there any benefit to having the system off? Does turning it off improve mileage at the expense of a little power, or is it purely just a little dashboard toy and/or sound effect device?

I don't think so...
With about 5000 miles on mine, I've noticed about .2 mpg improvement in mileage in "non-S" mode. Certainly NOT a big deal, but I'm convinced that the sharper throttle response of S mode results in a marginal decrease in mileage.
Of course, this thread begs the obvious question - "If you have to ask about mileage, can you really afford the car?"
No insult intended, afterall, I'm the one who knows about a .2 difference...

Hmmm, I vote with Parikh1234. Less back pressure should = better mileage.
I don't know but I think the ECU at cruising speeds (cruise control) meters the minimum fuel to achieve the set speed. With the fly-by-wire throttle the engine efficiency and FSI matches the driving style/demands at least according to owners manual.

Best of both worlds: Disable the valves, you'll never have to push the S button.
You get less backpressure plus no quickened throttle response to kill your fuel mileage or mess up your shifts. Bonus is great sound.

Clicky here for howto

or even differences in fuel. In Colorado we get ethanol in our fuel during the winter and
that decreases power & fuel economy, but apparently reduces emissions...
