Interesting statement to my mind. I do actually care about fuel economy. It has nothing to do with whether or not I can afford it. It has to do with feeling just a *little* guilty about getting a vehicle that is a "gas guzzler". It's just me.
Of course, I know one 4.3sec 0-60 blast, accompanied by the almost symphonic mechanical shrill of that engine is going to do away with all my guilt. He..he..he!!!!!

Or would more back pressure = better mileage ? ...
If the engine can't breathe fast enough to take it's next breath, then wouldn't the mixture be retarded, and therefore less fuel be consumed ?

Mixtures can't get retarted, only ignition timing and people. Choking off an engine by restricting the exhaust makes it run less than design efficiency. If improving gas mileage were that simple, everyone would be driving around in cars with corks stuck up their...
