Default B7 S4... The First 1000 Miles (long)

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/67633/1000miles.jpg"></center><p>Well folks its been a bit over a week and after picking my Imola Yellow S4 with 30 miles on the odometer I have hit the 1000 mark. Ide like to share my thoughts with the rest of the audiworld community. First off with all the controversy over the appearance of the new model 100% of the feedback I have received in person has been positive. As a skeptic at first I have truly grown to love the look of this car. unlike my previous B6 I get a greater feeling that I am driving something unique and something that really is set apart from the crowd. My choice of color certainly has drawn a lot of attention as well resulting in me getting pulled over not once but twice for no reason at all (my favorite was when I was pulled over in the middle of traffic asked to "Resist the urge to speed") People seem to be drawn to the car now I cant go anywhere without someone asking about it. More importantly with this car as well as the B6, now this could be relative, but while driving this car I donTMt get people cutting me off or cursing me off people smile and wave I see fathers in SUVs talking to their sons in my rear view mirror pointing out the details of the the car and smiling. It just seems to radiate a positive image (soo different then when i drive my fathers 745i which seems to attract redicule). I feel like i am makin some kids day by driving by in the s4, hehe I know thats how I used to feel when I was younger.
The interior upgrades have made spending long periods in the car a serious escape. Its such an awesome place to be anything you could possibly want is at your finger tips, every surface so tactile and so well finished. from the way the leather on the steering wheel goes from perforated to smooth, to the way the sun shines on the carbon fiber trim, everything just feels right. the little detail changes include the color "s4" graphics on the door sills and the slightly smaller diameter steering wheel which not only improves handling feel but also allows for a clearer view of the instrumentation. The gadgets added to the B7 were a big selling point for a lot of us. the new navigation system is one of the best I have used, very precise and easily understood even though the controls seemed fussy at first (but a snap when compared to the first gen idrive in the 745i) Since I work in the music business I really appreciated the addition of the SD card readers. With over 60 gigs of music on my computer I cant tell you what a relief it is to not have a million and one cd-r's rolling around in the various storage compartments of the car.
Now for the nitty gritty...The driving experience. Where I feel that the B7 is a much more complete vehicle then my B6 and that the driver to car interface has improved marginally, The car seems more prone to understeer. Now to everyday oejoe shmoe drive to work and home and thats it” guy this isnt a problem but for those of us that truly want a no compromises sporting vehicle this is a problem. As before the gas and brake arent exactly positioned for any heel and toeing and there is absolutely no hope of getting the back end to break loose. part of the problem is that the car is not making enough power to warrant such a severe awd system. in the everyday world on a curvey backroad leading to a 100 mile highway sprint there is no better car for the job...I just wish I could right foot steer and get the thing sidways. This is a car that is very easy to drive fast.
In reality not all of us have a desire to make to make this car more difficult drive...it is afterall a road car and it performs just the way audi wanted it to. as for the more hardcore petrolium junkies these issues can easily be remedied.

bottom line is this is my dream car, the kind of car I will be telling my kids about. any problem I may be facing in my life is instantly cured by a drive in the s4. I feel so lucky to be able to enjoy something like this so early in my life and any complaints I may have about it become null and void.

Default The Nav does have a 6.5" screen of it's own bud.

it also displays the road your traveling on in the dash unit.

Bre's Toureg is just like that !!!

Default nice post

i think the main attention grabber is the imola. just like a nice butt or breasts attract you to a woman on first sight (BTW- where's the sig)?

given the fact that it's an S it's not supposed to lose the rear. that's the quattro style. it's like an M3 driver "complaining" about his inability to do a four wheel drift in his car. it's not supposed to be able to do that, at least not from the original engineering standpoint.

anyway. kudos for your good taste and your post. i'm sure you can put on a sway bar and jack up the rear psi a bit to help break it loose. whatever floats your boat, man. just make sure you give us a nice sig

makes waiting for my RS even more painful. just last night i was talking with a friend of mine about justifying an S so I could save even more money for the LMQ but...he talked me out of it. maybe i'll get an S then the RS...never mind. does money grown on trees?
