Default Burning oil at exactly 12K

So my low oil level light came on at exactly 12K miles. Guess this thing does burn through oil. Does anyone else burn through coolant quickly? I live in warm LA, but i've had to refill it 4 times already. What is the best oil? The manual says 0 w 30, but I think the dealer put synthetic in at the 5K service. What is the best brand and is it available at most auto parts stores?

Are we talking about coolant or oil?

You need to use an " AUDI Approved " oil.

Default Oil

I was just adding that I seem to get through a lot of coolant as well.

You mentioned your 5K mile service, but what about the 10K service?

Default There is NO scheduled 10K service.

I know, you got a reminder on your info center. So did just about everyone else. The techs reset it for 10K but it should be set for 15K.

Default You probably have a coolant leak. Get it checked out. BTW

Audi considers the consumption of 1 qt of oil per 1000 miles to be "within normal limits" I have a problem with this since my car(as well as others) has not used any oil in 16K miles.

Default Interesting. I thought it was 5, 10, 20, 30, etc. Either way, I'm not surprised that the oil light

came on after 7K. Both my Audis took about 15K miles to stop eating oil.

Default So what kind of oil should I use?

Since Audi service is closed today AND tomorrow (unfortunately), I can go to pep boys today a pick up sufficient oil. I just don't want to use an inadequate oil even though the next change is only 3K away. I'm also not sure about the synthetic oil.
