Default Fuel pump noise coming from under passenger rear... how much to fix?

I've got 64K miles, no warranty. Anyone know how much it runs to replace what I think is a fuel pump problem? Parts/labor. I figure it would take an hour at the most?

Damn, after I filled up at one station, my fuel pump started making a humming/electronic whining sound.

Default Start with the fuel filter....skip on the pump

Pump is expensive filter is cheap. A constricted filter will make all kinds of noise. Search my user name to find the video I posted of the sound. Keep in mind I do have an AWE non res exhaust making some additional noise but you should be able to hear the pump whine pretty clearly.

Default If it happened right after your fill-up, then you got a batch of bad gas.

This happened to me on several occasions but I was always getting gas at the same place.

Decided to experiment and change gas stations and voila! the noises stopped.

I would also agree that if changing gas stations doesn't help, the next step would be to change the fuel filter. This is a pretty easy DIY. Search the forum for a write-up.

Good luck!

I've had the momentary, random whine there for years! No codes, therefore no fix'um.

Have had that since the 1st day, very intermittent, cold weather would seem to exacerbate it

Default Fuel pump replacement is around $800 on the A4.

I would start with the filter, very easy to do yourself. $40 or so for the filter and usually solves the problem. I would get it done asap as well, if your filter is clogged, it'll just kill the pump and possibly leave you stranded (depending on how bad it is)

Default Thanks! Anyone know if there's really a VIN split on the fuel filter? For my VIN, they said it's

$60, because it has some connector or something.
