Default Gas Guzzler Tax

Any thoughts on this? Why $1700 for the MT? The RS6 Gas Guzzler Tax is only $1300.

Default According to the EPA readings....

Nice car!!! The gas guzzler is based on the Weight/size class the car is in. The A8l is a full sized car, and therefore the horrible MPG is acceptable. The S4 is in the compact (I think) car group so it is not. The S4 appears to be rated at the same MPG as the RS6 which is larger but also considered a gas guzzler.

I also object to paying the gas guzzler tax, but have accepted as part of driving a high perfpormance vehicle.

Default Not based on any weight/class. Simple EPA formula based on MPG.

Only thing it doesn't apply to is trucks. The A8L simply gets better gas mileage than the S4.

http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/info.shtml#guzzler</a

Default Recheck you calculations...No one's "getting screwed".

The S4 EPA reported gas mileage and window sticker shows 15/21. If you follow the EPA site's formula you get 20.26494 which is "at least 19.5, but less than 20.5" which is a $1700 tax.
(See the formula below the table at the link, city mpg is weighted more than highway mpg)

http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/info.shtml#guzzler</a

Default Re: Not based on any weight/class. Simple EPA formula based on MPG.

GK, I stand corrected. I am still a bit confused by the table which states the figures used to determine the amount of the tax are not based on the posted EPA figures. My RS6 shows 15mpg city/22mpg highway, and the tax is $1300.00 as was stated. That is why I assumed it was based somewhat on the vehicle classification which for the RS6 is midsized.
