Intake manifold fixed (and a positive dealer experience sidebar)
Got my manifold gaskets installed and bolts retorqued per the C4-04-02 TSB yesterday. It took a couple of visits, but no big deal. Barrier Audi in Bellevue, WA took care of it with no fuss.
However, when I got home from my second visit (July 29 test of the manifold bolt torque), I noticed what looked like a bit of dribbled fluid residue on the hood. The car was otherwise clean and I figured I'd take care of it on my next wash (I should have looked more closely). Anyway, the car sat the garage (except for a couple of grocery runs to keep the car lubricated), the gaskets landed and I returned yesterday for the intake manifold fix. When I got home after retrieving the car, I noticed that the streak (about 15 inches long and 1/2 inch wide) was still there. Oh @#$%.
I brought the car in today expecting to get some push back (since it had happened on my prior visit as far as I could tell), but Gary (the service manager) took a look, tested some mild rubbing compound on it, and sent me to their detail shop--where the hood was rotary buffed and all is well. No hassle whatsoever. I really appreciated that. Gary was a little worried that it might be a paint defect, but as it turns out, it probably was some bit of shop fluid that spilled onto it during the prior check. The nice part was that they could have argued that it happened elsewhere, but did not.
Thank you Barrier Audi!
P.S.: Funny to see an S4 Avant on the lot after all the waiting folks have done.

you guys must know how to talk with dealers
when I went up to mine and brought the TSB with me, they a) didnt even know about the TSB and b) told me there was nothing they could do
"so basically i have to wait till there is a problem for it to be fixed"
"yes"
