Hey Everyone,
A week ago last Friday, Audi bought back my S4, and I took delivery of a 42 month lease on a Crimson Red A4 3.0 Avant Sport 6sp.
I've since added a set of Ultrasport wheels I got on eBay, and a heavy-duty (allroad style) cargo net. I've ordered ultra-sport door flares, but they are on back-order. (note: the ultra's don't flare out as much as the S4's - I went this way b/c I don't plan on doing an other body kit stuff, and I felt that w/out the agressive bumpers, the S4 scale door flares might look odd).
The actual buyback paperwork was incredibly simple; two 1-page letters that I had to sign, and they gave me a check - which I then signed back over to the dealership as a downpayment on the A4.
I love love love the A4. It is so easy to be smooth while driving this car aggressively. The power is obviously not insane, but it is fine.
The interesting thing is that it clearly has all the same DBW bugs as the S4. The reason it is so much easier to drive smoothly is that the throttle mapping is shifted deeper into the pedal, so you don't have to have muscle control of a jedi master to get reasonably close to what you want from it.
Now that I have the Y-rated 18" tires (the goodyear FS-whatevers that you guys all recommended), the handling is fantastic. A little more roll than the old S4, but nothing to get upset about. The lack of Recaro seats make a bigger difference than the suspension.
Other mods I'm considering:
exhaust
hard-wiring
- valentine
- tire pressure receiver
- bluetooth hands-free kit
suspension (unlikely)
recaro's (if I can find them from a junk yard)
