S4 Avant compared to S6 Avant

Re: S4 Avant compared to S6 Avant
I came within inches of buying an S6 Avant about 1 1/2 years ago. I test drove it a bit, but of course the memory is now pretty old. The S4 seems noticeably quicker to me. Of course, the S6 was a tip and my S4 is a stick. The S6 is a bit heavier, and I think the S4 feels a little better balanced. I decided against the S6 and chose to wait for the S4 to arrive. I'm happy with the decision.

Came close to getting S6, signed contract and everything but
deal fell through, it was for 52K for 2002 S6. After owning an '99 Avant I was looking for more power and better handling, so looked at S6 and then a '03 Allroad, went for '03 Allroad, saveed the 15K and putting towards A4 Avant.
Main reason was wife needed car, Sr6 did not make sense for kid hauler, ar is much better and the 2.7t moves it well and the new '04 ar with 4.2 should also do well for about same price as '02 S6.
I favor the S4 as its a newer body style and stiff frame and I believe will have better resale value.

We have both...
I drove the S6 Avant (2002) for close to two years, and now the wife does.
I recently picked up the S4 sedan (700 miles and counting).
For me there are two stand out differences, the S4 is a much more solid car, the S6 is bigger and you feel it when you compare the two back to back. The S4 has amazing seats, I don't think anybody would argue with that.
If you need to haul 3+ adults around then the S6 is the only way to go and exactly why we have both cars now.
Ultimately they are both are great cars, you can't go wrong with either - if I had my choice and space wasn't a concern I'd probably have two S4s (sedan + avant, or avant + avant) simply because I like smaller cars.
Enjoy the ride... I do. :-)
If you have specific questions email me.
