Don't forget Quattro, that's like 200lbs right there...
...you take that away, and you're right around the C32 weight!
Also, don't forget this is a fully laden weight, not the basic dry weight. The 5 series is around 3850 dry, and 4000+ laden.

One of the main things that turned me off with the B6
3.0 avant is almost 4000 pounds:-( One of the reasons we got a bimmer instead of another audi.
Of course you want a stiffer platform but you got to keep the weight down too
