Service history on a car?

Service history on a car?
OK, color me confused.
I picked up a 2004 Audi S4 avant 2 months ago with 36K miles on. I bought it from a 3rd party dealer down in LA, with no idea what I was getting. Don't see too many used cars, so I just went for it when I saw one.
The service indicated was showing I had 2K miles left when I picked it up. Called my closest dealer (Carlsen, in Palo Alto) when I hit 38K to schedule a service appointment. Very nice person asks for the VIN, and tells me that the car had actually been serviced at 35K, so no need till 45K.
Today, I stopped by Carlsen on the way home to pick up a service history on my car. No one can find it in the computers. Nor can they explain how they could find it when I called to setup the appointment the first time. they claim they only have history on cars serviced there, not in the AOA network.
So, can I get a service history or not?
while I'm at it - They indicated that there are no more loaner cars!? "you can rent from budget sir". Are other stealers in the bay area doing the same now?
