Slow to start engine, inconsistent power: fuel pressue problem?
Recently bought 2006 S4 from dealer with 65,000 km (40k miles). Scanned with VAG, no faults.
Engine is hard to start when cold - is it normal to need cranking for up to 5 seconds? (Starter cranks just fine; not a battery issue.) Most older cars I've had start within 2 seconds. Sometimes is starts faster, usually when warm. Is the fuel system primed by unlocking/opening the driver's door?
Power seems low at times - other times it feels perfect. It always runs smooth and doesn't cut out or anything, just not consistently fast.
Do both these issues point to a clogged fuel filter or need for ECU update? Dealer did not change plugs or air filters (I replaced the plugs myself with BKR6EIX) so I am certain they did not change the fuel filter either.

Hmm. I'm having the exact same issue with my 04 with 70k on the odometer. I just bought it from a acura dealer from a trade in. They had replaced all 8 coil packs before I bought it. I had to go to them 3 times for CEL for 02 sensor. Last visit they replaced all 6 sensors they said. CEL hasn't showed since, but now I'm getting slow cranks of 5-10 seconds randomly when the engine is cold. I want to bring it to them, but I already know they will say "they couldn't reproduce the problem." Let me know what you find out as far as solutions go.

I've had similar problems with long cranking times to start my 04 S4. Turned out to be the fuel pump. See my previous posts -http://www.audiforums.com/forum/show...=1#post1210533

Hi, thanks for the post. It sounds like my problem is nowhere near as bad as yours. So I will wait and see if it gets worse before going near the fuel system; and if so, warranty!
I fixed my power problem. Friggin air filter was left clogged by the dealer. So-called CPO 300-point inspection was a total lie, even after I complained the car was sluggish they didn't clue in. So I installed new filters myself and it breathes like a champ now. Throttle response is way better and it may have even reduced my cranking time to start the engine.
