Spied this weekend: New C55...
Looks an awfully lot like the old 32, except for the four PHAT tailpipses sticking out the rear. Same rims as 32, etc. Car was parked so I didn't get a chance to hear the engine. I took a couple pics but forgot to bring my camera in to work. I'll post them tomorrow. PS: Also spied two Bentley GTs! Oh so pretty!

VW Phaeton, you should read the latest Car and Driver....
they think the car is an overweight pig, and they use too many VW components. I think as an intial product from Bentley it will do the job, but by no means am I excited about the company if they keep on the same track that they are with the Bentley GT. If you are going to have a car that is 5400 lbs., then you need more than a W12 to move it. The Bentley is in unique company with the Aston DB9, CL600, CL65 and Scagletti, unfortunately in terms of quality and performance it is no where near it's competitors. When you have a 130K CL600 that has been on the Market for 4 years now with more standard options, more technology in a lighter package, and can go toe-to-toe with a 260K Ferrari, the Bentley seems like the odd choice. Hopefully it will shed a few pounds and they will put a V12 in there rather than two VR6's.

You do know it's two VR6's with two a turbo for each...
Still very impressive in my book.
Have you seen on in person? If not, I'd wait until you see one and get inside of one before you take the mag's opinion on it.
But I understand, to each his own, and this may not be your cup of tea.
When the new A4 (B6) design was released, I really did not care for it. I didn't think it looked very good in pictures, and even when I first saw on on the road, I still was not impressed. Now I drive the avant and I think it's one of the best looking cars on the road.
I'd be interested in hearing your opinion after you drive one, if you get the chance.

A friend of mine...
actually works for Bentley. He works out of VW of America in Auburn Hills and I have driven it on one occassion. I know it's turbocharged, but it still makes no difference in terms of performance. I would like to say I do like the interior, with the exception of the liberal smattering of VW parts bin buttons. What I DON'T like is primarily the engine, and the fact that it feels like a VW, not a Bentley. VW took the easy way out and took two cheap engines and put a turbo on each one. If you are going to have a true GT I believe you need to start with a "from the ground-up" V12, or if you want a W12, from the ground up W12. You pay a premium for exclusivity, so why have a car that has two Jetta engines? And is it really necessary to weigh so much?
My only point is this, when you are in exclusive company you are expected to perform with the best. The Bentley, while its a decent first attempt from VW, needs to be outstanding at ONE thing at least...it just doesn't have that for me...
