For those RS4 folks, will the future S6
have a 6-spd manual and will it perform better than the '03 RS6? Will it compete with the M5 or will they make another RS6 for that purpose?

another RS6 is on deck (550HP V10). S6 will fall short of 03 RS6.
at least that is the current best-guess consensus - on several sites around web and from "insider info" posted by AW members.
from GCF.com:
We previously mentioned in our Audi Q7 SUV Spy Photos article that the top engine will be a 5.5 liter FSI V10 producing 550 hp and 413 lbs/ft of torque. This same engine will also be handed over to the new RS 6 due in 2008 however the new S6 will receive a slightly tuned down version with 5.2 liters of displacement producing 440hp and 396 lbs/ft of torque. Initially a 6-speed Tiptronic transmission will be the only available choice but later comes the 7-speed DSG double clutch transmission.

>> German Car Fans info

No manual. Tip from the Bentley Conti.
Performance should readily match the M5 when in P4 (400hp) mode. On anything but smooth dry pavement, it should be a close thing even if the M is in P5 (500hp) mode.
The RS6 is ready to be approved for production. Think high 500hp to low 600hp range. The trick has been to find a tranny that will work with all of the torque. All 3 present DSG systems in production or about to launch, do not fit in the C6 chassis (transverse engine cars, longitudinal front engine, and mid/rear engine).
