Default They've been using this technology for years...

I actually got stopped under the same circumstances over 10 years ago and the officer gladly demonstrated the technology for me. They can accertain speed of vehicles moving in the opposite direction, while moving, with a high rate of accuracy.

Default Modern Radar Units are designed to be used in three modes...

They can accurately calculate your speed while the user is stationary, approaching, and following. The software is built into the unit and a high school graduate can operate the system very easily.

Default cosine error works in your favor, not the cops

if you are clocked doing 80 and there is an angle of incidence > 0 then you were probably doing over 80.

I don't have the time here to look it up but there are some explanations out there on the web. Look up "radar cosine error".

Default Most of the time, yes, but maybe not in moving-mode...

It is possible that the cop's speed is affected by the cosine error more than your speed... if so, the reading is erroneously high.

Default Attack the calibration

Radar actually works best when you and the radar unit are going towards each other. Your best bet it to attack the calibration of the radar unit or the device used to calibrate the radar unit. The unit must have been calibrated before and after the stop and this must be recorded with matching serial numbers. Also, where most police depts fail is the calibration of the calibration device (such as the tuning fork). This device must be calibrated periodically and records of this must be made available to you if you ask for them (in court not at the stop). The key is you must ask for them. If they cannot provide them, you must ask for a dismissal.

Default I'm in the middle of a ticketassassin mentored situation: 96 in a 70, I5 near Bakersfield

Have already sent in my trial by declaration without a lot of success (fine was reduced by only $35), and traffic school was denied. So I'm gonna file for a trial de novo (new trial) and go up there to see if I can't get traffic school, and with a wild bit of luck, get the whole thing wiped out.
