What a bummer....
I picked up my silver S4 Avant a week and a half ago, found some fine Vredestein 18-inch snow tires, and started to put the break-in mileage on the car. What a a fine vehicle!
I got 300 miles on it before I underwnt surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff (right shoulder)! So at least six weeks in a sling (likely longer), absolutely no driving, and I've put the Avant in storage for the duration.
I'm really bummed about this, and I thought I might as well take it out on the List...you lucky guys with good right arms!
Until sometime later....

Wow. On the up side think of all the wear you will save on your snow tires.
Hard to come up with anything better than that for your plight. Good luck.
If it helps any I will do extra shifts on your behalf for the next 6 weeks :}

Re: Wow. On the up side think of all the wear you will save on your snow tires.
Thanks for the sympathy. Frankly, I'd rather be wearing out my snow tires, because our roads will be snowpacked for the next two months, and driving the A4 with the traction control off on these roads was becoming addictive.
It will be time for a tire and wheel change by the time I get out of my arm sling, unfortunately... And I'll still have to do the rest of the break-in mileage before having real fun....
Anyway, thanks for all your good thoughts!

Whoops, I meant S4, not A4 -- I'm still not used to owning this car.

Re: Thats a shame, I notice you have a Cossie!
Unfortunately, as you've seen, I have not driven my new S4 Avant very much, due to shoulder surgery. And also unfortunately, my 1995 Ford Escort Cosworth has been down recently with a broken fuel line that I am having a devil of a time getting detached and replaced.
But I can report on my comparison impressions of the two, based on the short time I have driven the S4. The S4 is smoother, higher-revving, heavier (3900 lb. vs. 2800 lb.) and has less horsepower (344 vs. 378 hp.) The S4 seems more nose-heavy than the Cossie, and the traction control and layout (either on or off) seems to limit the "pitch-ability " of the car more than the Cossie. The shorter wheelbase of the Cossie makes it easier to "rally-drive" on curvy snowpacked roads.
The engine in the S4 is much smoother and less agricultural than thr 4-cylinder Cossie, and it is definitely more of a long-distance car than the Cossie, which has an exhaust boom at around 90 mph in 5th gear, and does not rev as freely as the Audi.
My Cossie has 16 inch Nokia studded snow tires, and I have NEVER had a car accelerate on snow like this one --imagine being pushed back in your seat at 60 mph in 3rd gear on a snow-packed road, and you get the idea....
But for a reliable, day to day winter (and summer) driver, the S4 Avant will have it all over the Cossie, I'm afraid.
