I think there was\is a recall to add an oil cooler to address that little problem..
read something about it only with the auto tranny models and they were asking people to sign a non disclosure tye of document to get on the parts order list.
could be BS, after all I did read it on the Internet

Some of the early 335i SEDANS with AT did not have an oil cooler
I guess BMW was trying to save a few $$$$. Since March 07 production, all 335i coupes and sedans with or without AT have the cooler.
