One of the guys had standard OE A4 struts fitted to the front of his sport suspension car and the noise went away.

To me, it's sounded like a strut or a strut mount kind of noise. My car is creaky and sounds like a worn out car with 150k miles on it.

It has been very hot here recently and the noise does seem to be worse then. I was riding along a quiet stretch of road last week, about 40 mph, radio off, and I could hear the noise.

I have filed a complaint with Audi. I think we need more people doing that to get some resolution to an unacceptable condition on these '11 cars.

Hal, can you clarify? Are you saying your car is still making the same noise after installing different struts? Thx.

It only happened on mine in warm weather and when one of the front wheels was turned AND compressed i.e. driving into my driveway. I never felt like there was any safety issue or anything "terrible...or frightening" in any way. Whats likely happening is there is a bushing in the sway bar assy that is getting stressed under tight turns and then slipping or popping a little when it unloads. Its a nuisance for a $55K car no doubt... something Audi should fix.

Feel free to email if questions...

Any update on this man? Mine just did it coming home after work. I agree with you. Not worried about a safety issue but a 50k+ car should be perfect.

Mildly annoying but... shouldn't do that.

Wouldn't be easy to reproduce the clunk at the service dept, because it does not happen all the time, but when it does, it's loud. It tends to happen when braking and/or turning at low speeds, such as slowing down and turning into gas station, etc. Will bring it up at my next service appt

Heads up to the group - my '11 is exhibiting the EXACT same thing as other's have described. It's Austin, Texas 100+ degree weather so this happens EVERY DAY.

Also have some clutch noise & issues with the synchro going from 2-3.

And, this is only at 17,500 miles :-(

Mine is doing this too. Exact same conditions. It's bugging me quite a bit.

Own a 2002 S4. I have been hearing this clunking/rattle off and on for about a year now. Agreed that it's most noticeable during periods of hot dry weather, and after driving for more than 15 min. Three months ago I left it at the repair specialists and they could not duplicate the noise. Yesterday I drove over there and had a tech join me while I was driving. He was able to pick up the noise but did not know the cause. I have left the vehicle there for the next week in hopes that they will discover the cause. I am considering using of a Go Pro camera and mounting it somehow in the wheel basin area if they cannot figure out the source/cause of the noise.

My car was making the same noise.. It continued to get worse until it sounded almost like grinding metal. Dealer diagnosed as bad weheel bearings, getting replaced today. I'll let you know if that makes it go away.
