mileage from the factory

mileage from the factory
I tried searching but had no luck. Is it possible that a car at a dealer can have 46 miles on it and has never been test driven?
A previous s4 I test drove had 12 miles on it and had been test driven once, so it definitely had under 10 from the factory.
What would the reason be for the wide range of miles from the factory? Something wrong that they had to try several times to fix before releasing it? Some cars get extensive driving tests at the factory and some dont?

since I can't edit my post, I found a thread covering most of my questions:

but it does seem odd the range would be below 10 to above 50. They must do more extensive test drives at the factory on say every 10th car or something.

Mine was ordered for me as well, and I was tracking the ship to the day it got in; picked it up from the dealer as soon as dealer prep was completed, right off the showroom floor. 42 miles on mine, if I recall correctly.

Must be a whole lot of routine driving once these cars board the ship in Bremerhaven.
My car was delivered with 10 miles on the odometer, but I know my SA accounted for a couple of those - delivering it to the local Audi dealer.
My delivery is much the same except that my dealer, Auto Exchange (military sales), intercepts the car in Bremerhaven, before it boards the ship, then has it trucked down to Stuttgart to their location. Then the SA takes the car to Audi for delivery prep. The Audi dealership staff here in Stuttgart treat me like a king; and I swear every woman working in the dealer could be a cover model too, which has its perks.

I went through this as well... There are lots of things that could cause the mileage to accumulate even without a test drive.
The way my dealership explained it, there is the test at the factory, then another test at the port, then another test at the dealership, and finally the mileage accumulated by getting the car from place to place. Depending on your dealership, they may not use a flat bed and just drive the car over, all those add up. And that's assuming that none of the checks result in any problems, if they do, well, now more driving of the car to resolve the issue.

My B6 S4 had 54 miles on it when it was delivered from the port. B8 had 12. BUT a poster on AZ claimed his came in with 300+ miles and 3 stone chips in it. Obviously, he didn't take the car and fortunately, the dealer was able to find a similar car coming in in 3 weeks. But it makes you wonder, why some cars have more mileage than others. It also make me wonder where and why the mileage was put on.
