My dealer took a personal check for full amount. They did run a credit check on me, though.

+1 same for me. I gave personal check and they gave me keys. I didn't even have the funds in checking and transferred when I got home.

Yup, same here. No drama.

My dealer needed a certified check and only took $500 on the credit card. The former is probably because this is my first purchase with this dealer and low limit is to avoid CC fees. When we bought the Jetta a couple of years ago, they allowed for $5K on the CC.

It is dependent on the dealer. I wrote a personal check to dealer to cash out my previous S4..

The credit card limit is pretty standard. My dealer only allowed $2,500 on it. However, if you are adding anything (winter tires, mats, audicare, etc) that you have to pay for, you can pay with a CC separate from the car agreement.

I have a friend who was able to put $10K on his Amex by getting up and threatening to walk out on a Honda dealer after a couple hours of negotiating.

Mine took a personal check but I was wearing a monocle so I'm sure that helped my credibility.

Dealership didn't stipulate one or the other. I brought a certified check just to be on the safe side.

We paid for the TTS and the S4 with personal checks. Not an issue and we had never done business with them before.
