2020 S4 not hitting full boost in 1st gear and sometimes second
Hey all,
just coming back to Audi after a few years hiatus. Just picked up a 2020 s4 a few weeks ago and noticed something I don’t remember noticing on my 2018 s5 SB a few years ago with the same engine and transmission
The car does not build full boost in first gear without launch control (as indicated on the gauge cluster boost meter). If I just floor it from a stop it won’t build full boost until the end of second gear.
also if I am already rolling around 30-40 and push the gas pedal past the kick down point and it downshifts to second, the car will not make full boost even in second gear as it runs through to redline. You can see it slowly creep to maybe 3/4 full in second before hitting full boost after shifting to third.
Is this normal? I remember my old s5 feeling a lot more consistent with delivering boost after a kick down and generally feeling faster.
Been trying to find POV acceleration videos online without launch control but it’s hard to find good ones where I can compare. Took it to the dealer and they said there are no codes and that they drove another s4 and it was performing similarly (I highly doubt they actually did the second part as they had 0 s4’s in their inventory at the time)
Boost gauge maxes out consistently in 3rd and up so I don’t suspect a boost leak as I would think that would be consistent through all gears.
my initial thoughts would be that I’m just remembering my old cars behavior incorrectly, or that the ECU is limiting boost in 1st and 2nd for some reason.
