1/4 Mile gurus, some advice please
Here is my set-up:
-APR chip 100 Octane program
-Stasis Coilovers (600f/700r)
-Falken Azenis Sport-225/45/17 (46psi all the way around)
-everything else is stock
So I'm off to the track on Friday and in preparation I tried out a few launches with the new tires. These tires are quite a bit stickier than my old Pilot Sports, so I launched a bit higher than normal ~4500rpm...oh boy...unlike the old tires that broke loose these ones just stuck. Needless to say some major clutch slip ensued and the air was filled with that unmistakable smell.
What can I possibly do to prevent this...launch higher? I will wet the tires before (drive through box) but not sure if this will be enough.
Any advice appreciated.
BTW I ran a 13.3 last year...sure would be nice to beat that.

You're going to have some really poor wear with pressure that high....
...you're going to wear out the center of the tread before the outer edges.
Additionally, you'll get better 1/4 mile results if you lower the pressure. I'd drop it down to the recommended pressure listed on the inside of the fuel filler flap, and maybe even drop it down a few psi from there.

This car really isn't meant for it. It's a pig. If you want a drag car get something else. And
besides since you have a better traction advantage than most you don't need to drop the clutch at 5000rpms or whatever.

If you launch the car correctly, your clutch will be fine.
Launching at that high an RPM will cause you to roast a clutch more times than not. I know what to do to launch this car, I just don't know how to explain it....heheheh..
My best times were always around 3500-3800rpm launch....but you have to know just how long to slip the clutch before giving it WOT and releasing the clutch all the way. If you ride it too long or launch to high, it will slip and you will come back to the pits with a bad smell. When done right, you won't smell any clutch and you'll have atleast a low 1.8 60ft, if not a 1.7.
Good luck!
