Default 17x7.5 or 17x8 for winter

Any reason to prefer one size rims over the other for winter tires?

Default narrow tires USED to be better for snow, but not anymore (supposedly)

many winter tire manufacturers claim that their design allows snow to stick to snow caught in the channels. In this case the more surface - the merrier, as opposed to "cutting" through snow where narrower tire has a better chance of reaching "traction" surface under the snow

Default I have never heard that before, do you have a link or anything. TIA!

Makes me feel good that I'm putting 225s on instead of 215s. Uhhhh yeah and it's a because I knew I would get better traction in the snow ; )

Default Nah, narrow tires still go through deep snow better.

"Select a Narrow Winter Tire for Your Vehicle.

A wide, low profile or large tire has to "plow" a wide path through snow which causes more resistance. The narrower the tire, the easier you can get through snow. We'll help verify sufficient load capacity and the appropriate diameter for your vehicle. Default A lot have gone to 16"s for winter. Better choice/availability of tires...

less $ as well to buy 16's vs 17's If money is a concern. I haven't heard this deal with narrower isn't always better due to the new manufactering, etc but....

Default And terrible handling on dry road... not many places in the country that don't plow...

How often is the road snow-covered where you live? Personally, I like having excellent snow traction, when needed, but why spend the majority of the time for a third of the year suffering with terrible handling for the occasional time you're driving on a snow-covered road?

Default Yeah, exactly the reason I went from 215 on 16s to 225s on 17s...

Default Actually, I was pleasantly suprised at the handling of my LM-22's in the 205-55-16 size...

...yes, they don't handle as well as my stock 17's, but they aren't *that* bad IMHO. Keep in mind that the LM-22's are an "H" rated snow tire so they are more dry-road oriented compared to the hard-core snow tires.

In addition, the taller sidewalls on the 16" size help protect your rims during pothole season.
