Default 1st to 2nd shift got smoother - is this typical ?

I've had my S4 for about 6 weeks now. When I first got it the 1st to 2nd shift (stock shifter) was very notchy and not very smooth. Just over the last few days things have seemed to smooth out considerably. Maybe something finally just loosened up ??<p>--CharlieJ

Default That's eerie - I've had mine 5 1/2 weeks and noticed the same thing the last couple days

Default Yes, as the nut behind the wheel breaks in.. ;-) (m)

Actually,

I'm being somewhat serious. Part of it is the trannie meshing better, but I also believe a large part of it is the driver knowing the shifter and shift points better.

I've had my car 3 weeks, and find shifting much easier as I know the throws a bit better, know to let it center in neutral before I go into 3rd etc...

The throws are a bit long, but not notchy... And I'm in luck, because I've got long arms and don't find the throws a burden.. ;-)

Default hmm...in 6 months, mine's gone the other direction

Started out mediocre, now has become poor at 5k. Getting ready to take it in and hope in can be fixed. Putting off UUC until I'm sure the tranny is OK.

Even though I mostly love this car, I don't get why this model was out a couple years in Europe and still has the sucky transmission. Even my Eclipse (a car noted for its poor shifter) was better.
