Default 2005 S4 Avant versus 2001.5 S4 Avant modified Nogoro

I have a number of questions still remaining after searching both S4 forums.

1) What is the best deal anyone has seen on a new B6 2005 S4 Avant? Any trunk money out there? My local Albuquerque Audi sales manger offered $3500 off sticker in the first sentence and he is a tight wad, so it makes me wonder about specials out there on remaining B6 avants. I do not like the new grill, so a B6 would be great.

2) I have an RS6 I am going to trade on either a new B6 Avant or a used B5 wtih K04 turbos, etc., almost stage three, just missing RS4 injectors to be true stage III according to owner. He wants at least $25K, maybe more with 61K miles (we are talking about a trade with my car around $70K).

3) Any thoughts about depreciation in one year on both cars assuming 20,000 miles per year? I figure both cars will drop about $10,000. Any thoughts about this?

I live at 6000 feet and drive aften over 9000 feet. Any thoughts about effective power on the two?

4) And, finally, overall thoughts about fun factor versus cost of a new 2005 at maybe $47K versus the used 2001.5 at $25K? The used car is in excellent shape and has the alcantara inserts that are very attractive.

5) Anyone else out there interested in discussing a trade?

Default I have a better idea...

Get an RS6 Plus! Oh wait, they never officially come here. If you are at a high elevation a lot, I'd strongly consider the B6.

Why B6? I thought turbos were better at high alt.?

They are worse at higher alt. Thin air=bad.

Default I thought by compressing the air they maintained their HP

up to maybe 10,000 feet? Guess I am really off on this. Thanks.

That could be true, not sure. I'm still basically a n00b.

You are correct. Turbos work harder at altitude, but perf stays the same (as sea level)

Default Turbo cars...will always perform better then N/A cars at altitude...

The ECU will sense the air being thinner due to the altitude and will order up moore boost to compensate. The problem with a modifed turbo'd at altitude is that turbos can over spin and cause damage or the will wear more quickly. I think it would not be as big of a problem with a KO4 set up since they are more robust then the KO3's.

As for which car to go with....B6 or B5 it really depends what you want..please qualify and that will make it much easier to make a recommendation. Both are great but are very different IMO.

Default ive looked into this exact scenario of b6 vs b5

the local dealer has a b6 avant listed at 48 and change, and s4 sedans at 47 and change. i imagine you could get them down to 47 or maybe even 46 for the avant b/c most dealers have quite a few b6's on the lots just sitting...

ive thought about this a lot, and while im not sure yet im leaning toward the b5 now instead of the b6. first of all, its a lot less money. second, the outside aesthetics of the b6 just arent that much better than the b5, and the power is nowhere near what a b5 can achieve. fuel economy is also terrible in the b6, and while its not great in a b5, 26mpg is a significant improvement over 21

Im probably going to get a lower milage b5 avant next year sometime and then transfer a lot of the mods from my b5 sedan onto it. hopefully one day ill be able to put an rs4 widebody kit on it and then I'll have my dream car, and will have still paid less than for a b6 avant (new at least).

I also know a good deal about the b5 as far as mechanical problems and everything, and i can fix most problems myself. the b6 interior is awesome, but its not 20,ooo dollars of improvement.

so in summary, i vote b5. but buy what fits you.

Default Modding in ABQ

I'm considering moving to Albuquerque next summer. I have a 2001 S and was hoping to find a tuner in town. Are there any?
