Default Advice Please

Hi, I live in Colorado and I am looking to get my first car. I have made enough from my job and saving up since i was 6 that I can get a B5 S4 or E36 M3. I still can't decide but I still want
to research both before I make a decision (which could be in three years). I am also either going to college next year at Ann Arbor Michigan or Madison Wisconsin on my quest to be a
mechanical engineer so drivability in the cold is a factor. I plan to tune up the car (Ko4 swap came up in one of the dreams I had once) and I will not be hesitant to drop money on it, but also, my main concern is how much basic maintenance for the S4 is. I have talked to people and they all say that S4s
break a lot and when they do the audi parts are crazy high in cost. That along with tuning and the wonderful (sarcasm) fuel economy for the S4 might break the bank for a college student.
So if you guys could please tell me about your personal experiences with S4 reliability I would be very thankful.
Thanks
Jan

Default In all honesty... If you have some proper tool's, maintenance isn't that bad.

You MUST have a VAG tool, a pressure tester (and an air compressor), a full set of tools, and a space to work on the car.

My S has left me stranded a couple times, due to either popping hoses, or bombing the tranny.

I always keep tools and certian spare parts in my trunk.

The car just requires constant attention, constant checking. My last pressure test, I had a bad TBB and bad 4 way vacuum check valve...

Hope that helps!
